Women’s Ministry Walk 2024

The ladies of GBC went for a walk on the morning of 13 July. That morning, about 50 women of all ages and 20 children came together to walk the grounds of Gardens by the Bay.

Sunday mornings can be a bit hectic and some may find it difficult to meet other ladies in GBC. Thus, we wanted to provide another opportunity to allow relationships to form and deepen. The aim of this walk was simple — to get to know others across ages and backgrounds in the church! It was planned in such a way as to encourage women to admire God’s creation together, while having meaningful conversations with other members and worshippers of GBC.

On the morning of the walk, God provided us with very good weather! It had been pouring and wet the day before, but that morning, the sun was out without a threat of rain. The ladies were grouped into smaller groups and were given a small Amazing Race to complete. This was to ensure that they would not get lost, and the tasks also ensured that those who were shy could get to know one another. The route took them through various spots in the Gardens and ended up in the Jurassic Nest Food Hall, where the ladies could enjoy brunch and a well-deserved cold drink after their walk!

Lois and Grace, briefing everyone before the walk started.

Lois, who helped to organise this walk with another member, Grace, says that she is ”thankful that God can use simple ways like taking a walk and admiring His creation to get us to know one another.” She goes on to share, “I’m so grateful for each of the ladies God has placed in our midst to know and grow together with. May we be women of God’s grace, uplifting one another with His Word, all Sundays and non-Sundays.”

Grace, who helped out, was “thankful for the opportunity to know other ladies in the church in such a casual setting. And there’s a sense of belonging in the body of Christ which is comforting.”

One of the highlights of the walk was to see women of different ages gather together. We asked some of them what they enjoyed about the walk. Jocelyn, one of the younger ladies, said, “It was fun and enjoyable to get to know ladies who I had seen in church but hadn’t had the opportunity to get to know. I’m thankful for like-minded ladies who are both driven to form connections with members of the church, and to complete the amazing race tasks!”

Sally, one of our older ladies, also joined us for this walk and said,  “I enjoyed God’s lovely creation in the Gardens as it reminded me of Psalm 19:1-6. I also enjoyed the fellowship with all the ladies, who are also part of God's created masterpieces, as Psalm 139:14 tells us.”

Fidelia brought her daughter, Hannah, along for the walk. What stood out for them from this walk? Hannah said, “Getting to know other people in church and admiring God’s creation together!” Fidelia echoed her sentiment and shared, “It was a really relaxing way of connecting with one another, surrounded by nature and fresh air! And what’s special about this is how God’s love and presence enable us to connect despite age differences!”

Thank God for the good weather, and all who came.

We thank God for answering prayers for good weather and also bringing the ladies together that morning. It was encouraging to see different ones care for each other. Some helped to look after the children that came along. Ladies watched out for each other, slowing down or speeding up when the need arose. It was a glimpse of living in community, and seeing how the gospel brings together people of different backgrounds, ages and life stages.

We continue to pray that the new relationships formed will grow, and existing relationships will deepen, as women help each other to grow in Christlikeness.
