Thanksgiving for Our Elders

At our 9 March 2025 service, we acknowledged the service of two of our elders, Mok Chuan-Xin and Caleb Yap after six years of service. They have both completed two terms, and will step off for a much-deserved rest.

During the service, Pastor Andrew took the opportunity to thank them for their faithful service, a service that involved much sacrifice, hard work and many late nights. He invited them to share how they have been encouraged as they served as elders, and how we could continue to keep them in prayer.

Caleb shared how it has been a joy and blessing to serve these past six years. He counted it as a joy to have had the opportunity to care for this congregation and various members of the flock. He was grateful for the ways that members have allowed him and his fellow elders into their lives to walk and grow with them. It has also been a joy to see the church grow and he has also seen how God has been growing him in his own walk too.

Chuan-Xin shared how the past six years have taught him the importance of prayer. He recounted how a third of the time at elders’ meetings are spent praying. He shared how the elders often realise that there are many things that only God can do. Only God can change hearts and man is unable to control or effect change. God has to work to accomplish His plans and purposes in His church. He also asked the church to pray that he would continue this prayerfulness and dependence on God even after he steps off from his role as elder, and that he would continue to focus on being word-centred as a member of this church.

We thank God for their faithful service and thank God for sustaining their wives and family these past six years. We pray for a time of rest even as they continue to be a part of our church community, and that God will continue His good work in their lives.

… shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

1 Peter 5:2–4
