Pastor Eugene’s Sabbatical

Pastor Eugene will be taking his sabbatical for six months from April to June, and October to December 2024. 

Elder Lup Meng reminded members on our 10 March Members’ Meeting that our sabbatical policies are one of the ways we practice Hebrews 13:7 as we remember our leaders. We remember and care for our leaders by providing them with time to rest, recharge and reflect. While our lay elders step down after a max of six years, our full-time elders who are on staff with us receive six months of sabbatical in their seventh year.

During Pastor Eugene’s sabbatical, the remaining team of staff elders — Pastors Oliver, Jeremy and Thian Chye will cover in his absence. The lay elders will also support and partner them as a team to care for the flock. 

Pastor Eugene shared at our 31 March service and Prayer Meeting that we can be praying for him to:

• Rest 

• Read 

• Reflect 

• (Be) Refreshed

During the sabbatical he also intends to visit with ministry workers abroad, accompanied by some GBC members on these learning trips. 

Pastor Eugene will still attend GBC’s services as a member during his sabbatical. As we pray for a fruitful break for him, let us also encourage him when we see him, Claire and their boys around on Sundays or during the week.
