Family Dedication (September 2024)
We had the joy of holding a Family Dedication at our 29 September service. This Family Dedication is an opportunity for parents to commit to raising their children in the Lord. It is also for the church to welcome and come alongside them by supporting the discipleship of these children.
Four families participated in this Dedication, and they were:
the Yins — Stanley, Yiling, Noah with baby Claire
the Wees — Jon, Fiona with baby Gemma
the Zimmermans — Cory, Sarah, Samuel with baby Victoria
the Lums — Kelvin, Rebecca, James with baby Aaron
Pastor Jeremy gave time to the families to share why they chose these names for their children. The church had a chance to heard their desire as parents for their children to come to know God.
Pastor Jeremy reminded us of how these newborns are wonderful gifts. He encouraged the parents to make known their commitment before the church to raise and disciple their children. Of course, this is not done by their own effort and resolve, but full with God’s strength and grace.
The families had a chance to recite their commitment to be godly parents before the church. The church also had a chance to respond by pledging to help them.
Pastor Jeremy also prayed for these families. He thanked God for His gracious salvation that has been extended to the parents, and how God has transformed them through His Spirit. As these parents have a godly desire to raise their children in a manner that pleases God, Pastor Jeremy prayed that God will continue to keep them close to Him, even when needs and circumstances might feel overwhelming. He also prayed that they will continue to recognise and treasure this opportunity to showcase and persevere in showing to the next generation a sacrificial love that ultimately points to Christ’s own love. He also led the church to pray for these newborns, and also the children at GBC, that they may come to know the gospel and to one day love Christ as their parents do.
Church, let us continue to keep these parents and the children in our midst in prayer. Let us continue to pray that the next generation will come to bear much good fruit for God’s glory.
Our Children’s Ministry is also recruiting more Sunday School Teachers and Nursery Volunteers. This is a practical way to meet the growing needs in our church.
