To Whom Are We Listening To? (1 John 4:1-6)

Sermon Outline

There are many voices speaking to us: who do we listen to?

  1. A command to discern (1 John 4:1)

  2. How we can discern: Test 1 (1 John 4:2-3)

  3. The assurance that we can discern (1 John 4:4)

  4. How we can discern: Test 2 (1 John 4:5-6)

“It is necessary to everlasting salvation; that he also believe faithfully the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. For the right Faith is, that we believe and confess; that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man; God, of the Essence of the Father; begotten before the worlds; and Man, of the Essence of his Mother, born in the world. Perfect God; and perfect Man… Who although he is God and Man; yet he is not two, but one Christ.”
(Athanasius, Early Church Father)

Reflection Question

  1. How can we together as a church body learn to better discern truth? What can we do to help one another discern?
