Know Your Leaders — Elder Tan Chong Tien
Tan Chong Tien was unanimously affirmed to be an elder on 18 October 2020. We thank God for His willingness to serve again as an elder and he shares with us his prayer for GBC.
I accepted Christ during a Bible camp in my secondary school year. During my university years, I went through some painful years of soul searching and re-examination of my faith. By God’s grace, l came through those years with my faith strengthened. I came to Singapore in 1978 and started working for the Ministry of Health as a medical officer. I was introduced to GBC by my sister Lye Kean and her husband Seck Wai Kwong. GBC has been my home church since then.
In earlier years I served as a deacon under the leadership of Dr EN Poulson. I saw God’s faithfulness in providing for and growing GBC. In 2010, I joined the elder board and served under the leadership of Pastor Arnold Wong and completed two terms of service. We experienced the exciting and challenging time of church rebuilding. God was faithful in providing and guiding us to complete the rebuilding without incurring any debt. We moved back into our new building in 2017.
God has gifted us with passionate and faithful pastors and elders. I am deeply appreciative of their faithful teaching of God’s word on the pulpit and on other platforms. Ever since we moved back into the new building, God has brought many new visitors to our church and many have elected to stay and join GBC. That means there are a lot of effort and adjustments needed by all existing members to welcome, befriend and disciple them. My vision for GBC for the coming years is that we will all reach out to one another to help everyone to grow in maturity in Christ and be united as one in Christ so that we can work together to further God’s kingdom.
