“The Impartial God”

February 3, 2019 Series: Grace Together

Passage: Romans 2:1–11

“The Impartial God”

(Romans 2:1-11)

1) The unqualified judges should judge themselves (v1-2)

(2) The patient judge wants us to repent (v3-4)

(3) The Day of the impartial judge is coming (v5-11)

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, merciful and patient, hear my prayer of repentance. I started this week with hopes of righteousness but now I sit down ashamed and burdened knowing the things I did not do that I should have, and the things I did that I should not have. Forgive me, Lord:

For my deceitful heart and crooked thoughts;

For harsh words spoken deliberately and thoughtless words spoken hastily:

For envious and wandering eyes;

For ears that rejoice in sin and gossip and rejoice not in the truth;

For greedy hands;

For wandering and loitering feet;

For proud and haughty looks;

Lord, I cannot claim a right to be forgiven by you, but cast myself upon the love and grace in Christ. I have no righteousness of my own, and I can blame no one for my sin, or explain away what I have done, either by circumstances or nature, or blame temptation. I can only ask, Father, that you forgive me for the sake of Jesus Christ who died for me. Amen.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. What is God saying to you today about your sin — yours, not your neighbour’s?
  2. Is there something that you need to turn away from, and turn to Christ Jesus for? Are the presumptions of this passage keeping you from doing so?
