November 6, 2016

Passage: Luke 11:1–2a

SERMON NOTES

“Pray Like This, Part 1: “Let Your Name Be Holy!”

Luke 11:1-2a

Disciples are people who desire to be trained by Master.

But despite all that they saw Him say and do, Jesus’ disciples only asked Him

to train them in one thing: How to Pray.

1. When we address God as Father, we acknowledge that our relationship is unique. (Genesis 5:1-2; Isaiah 43:1)

a. When we address Him as Father we know that we are marked for life.

b. When we address Him as Father, we know that we are to be about His business.

2. When we invite Him to make His name Holy, we are inviting Him to set apart His name for glory. (Isaiah 43:6-7)

a. When we pray “Father in Heaven—Hallowed be your name” we are inviting him to fill the nations with the knowledge of His glory!

b. When we pray “Hallowed be your name” we acknowledge that when God acts in power, it will always be in defense of His own name. (Ezekiel 36:20-23)
