The Vision That Shapes The Mission

August 16, 2015 Series: Prayer

Passage: Colossians 1:9–1:14

SERMON NOTES

THE VISION THAT SHAPES THE MISSION Col. 1:9-14

Question: How should we cope with the many voices of society that tell us how we should live our lives?

Col. 1:9-14 has a simple two-part structure:

1. We continually ask … (v.9)

2. … so that you may … (v.10-14)

1. God’s Will is for us to be mature hopeful disciples (v.9)

Question: Now that we know God’s Will, how should it shape the lives we live?

2. God’s Will leads us to walk down four paths (vv.10-14)

a. Bearing fruit in every good work (v. 10a)

b. Growing in the knowledge of God (v. 10b)

c. Being strengthened in all power (v.11)

d. Giving joyful thanks to the Father (vv.12-14)

Conclusion.

  • We cope with society’s confusing voices by listening instead for God’s Will.
  • His Will is for us is to be mature, hopeful disciples.
  • His Will (“vision”) shapes how we live as His people (“mission”).
  • We should pray for GBC members to know God’s Will and to live it out accordingly.
