YA Evangelistic Prata Party

On 21st October 2017, the Young Adults’ (YA) Ministry held its first evangelistic Prata Party on the attic floor of our new church building. The team originally planned for a party for 30 people, but God graciously provided for 50 YAs, including 12 guests!

YA prata party 1

Young adults and their friends got to know one another over prata before listening to the testimony of Alvin Chio from GBC, who was also recently baptized. He shared that he came from a non-Christian family and that he, like most Singaporean youths, pursued excellence in school and sought to live life to the fullest. Yet, these things did not satisfy and as he struggled with his identity and purpose, God met him through Christians friends who read the Bible with him. He heard the good news of what Jesus Christ had done for him, and that changed his life.  Alvin also shared how God continues to work in him, and ended by singing his original song Fall, which was inspired by his personal relationship with God and God’s faithfulness in spite of his own failings.

YA prata party 2

Pastor Ian Buntain closed the night by sharing the gospel. He talked about the reality of Man’s guilt and the great promise of life and relationship with God that we have in Jesus Christ. He encouraged all present to respond to the gospel – by believing it in faith, or by examining the claims of Jesus.

The YA Evangelism team planned event in order to open the church to our friends who might be seeking to learn more about the gospel. Our church must continue to seek out new opportunities to evangelise, and have conversations with non-Christian friends about God. A comfortable and open environment allows our friends to ask questions, and find out more about what Christians believe in.

God worked through the event to bring people in to hear the good news of the gospel. The YA were also prompted to clarify their own beliefs about God before articulating and sharing it with their friends. Ben Wee, a university student, shares this:

YA prata party 3The event was great and the sharing by Alvin and Pastor Ian was really encouraging. Of course, there was also the free flow of prata! More importantly, the evening was also exciting to me because I had invited a friend that was wondering for a long time what we Christians did in church. I’m glad to see that the sharing has sparked some interest in him to know more about the God we worship. Looking forward to more events like this!”

Another young adult and student, Samantha Ngo, reflected on the event and said:

The prata party went really well! Besides the wonderful food we had, it was even more encouraging to see many new faces as fellow YAs invited their non-believing friends to the event. It was a great time of fellowshipping with one another. Through the sharing of Alvin’s testimony and Pastor Ian’s message, it spurred me to think, that even as a second-generation Christian myself, it is important that I figure out my own faith in Christ and continue pursuing an intimate relationship with God."
