Testimony of Caleb Yap

Caleb Yap shares with us how he came to faith and also his heart for the church. This sharing was originally provided as a part of the Elders' elections at the English Congregational Meeting.
I have served with the elders of the Grace Baptist Church English Congregation since
March 2019 and by God’s grace, seek a second term.
My parents raised me and my siblings to know the living God as we worshipped at Grace aptist Church. I learnt the Bible through children’s worship and Sunday school from Esther Cher, Koh Siang Kiang, Chris and Katherine Ng, Philip and Jena Tang, Peter and Maggie Ho, Teoh Swee Hin and Lee Peng, Lenn Yah Wu and Bryan Hwarng.
But while attending a Navigators youth camp as a teen I realized I had not been born again. Afterwards I learnt the Gospel: I was a rebel and sinned against a holy God; Jesus Christ lived, died and rose in my place as God’s perfect substitute for my atonement. Through faith in this Savior I received His righteousness and was baptized.
I grew in my faith while at university, and began work as a teacher, then at various
Government ministries and now I work in communications.
I have served as elder for Care Groups and Welcome & Assimilation, helped with
communications and occasional preaching, and was most recently the Chair. Rachel and I love making disciples, especially among young adults.
God has grown GBC significantly under the leadership of Pastor Ian Buntain and now, Pastor Eugene Low. As we prayed, Rachel and I sense God’s desire for me to serve
with the elders for another term. He has encouraged us from 1 Cor 14:12 “So with
yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in
building up the church.”
We are excited for what the Lord has in store. We are grateful to the church family for
encouraging us continually. Soli Deo gloria.
