Travel

Some team members flew to Chiang Mai earlier before heading to Pua in a van hired by William and Karen, while some headed to Chiang Mai after the camp for Beacon Hall’s dedication service. All in all, we are thankful that all made it to the camp and back home (plus a trip to Chiang Mai) with smooth flights and transits, and deepest gratitude to William and Karen for being such gracious and generous hosts – taking time to fetch different team members at different time from Chiang Mai airport, giving the members a wonderful tour of Chiang Mai, and also arranging for transport to and from Kathy’s Home.

English Camp

Instead of the usual three-day English camp, we have the luxury of a four-day camp, which means there’s no evening classes. This naturally worked much better as everyone – teachers and students alike – were less stressed throughout the camp.

Given it was December, we also have a VBS element for the camp where two one-hour sessions were set aside for the students to design and paint their own tote bags. This art session was led by Lye Kean and as usual, the students enjoyed it very much and the teachers were in turn impressed by their creativity.

Morning Devotion and Sermon

Siew Kim, Lye Kean and Chung Cheong led the daily morning devotion while Beh shared a message on Christmas for Sunday worship service. Sharing from John 3:16-18, Beh reminded the children that the greatest gift God has given us is His Son Jesus, and that God did not send His Son to condemn us, but to save us provided we believe in Jesus whom He sent.

We give thanks to our Lord for:

  • the cool December weather.
  • 11 teachers – almost a record. We were thus able to have very good student/teacher ratio for the camp.
  • the additional day of camp which meant there’s no lesson in the evenings and was thus less stressful for all.
  • the children who seemed more receptive to our teaching.
  • the message on showing love and compassion.
  • the creativity of the children.

Please pray:

  • for the 5 children who have left the home, that they will continue to walk close with Jesus.
  • that the children will understand the true meaning of Christmas and have an appropriate response to it.
