Prepare for Worship (1 Dec 2019)
How am I faithfully re-telling God’s story written in my own life?
Call to Worship: Luke 1: 68-75 (NLT)
“Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people.
He has sent us a mighty Saviour from the royal line of his servant David,
just as he promised through his holy prophets long ago.
Now we will be saved from our enemies and from all who hate us.
He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his sacred covenant—
the covenant he swore with an oath to our ancestor Abraham.
We have been rescued from our enemies so we can serve God without fear,
in holiness and righteousness for as long as we live.”
Here are the songs for this week.
GOD'S WORD IN WORSHIP
This week is the 1st Sunday of Advent and Pastor Ian will be kicking off the season with a mini sermon series based on the book of Luke. The theme for this Advent season is "The Coming Kingdom" and his sermon this Sunday is titled "Beginning with Certainty" from Luke 1:1-4. He will remind us that we can have certainty in the things that have been taught and commit to retelling the story of the gospel God has written in our lives. Let's pray for Pastor Ian that his heart will be encouraged and strengthened as he prepares his sermon and pray for the congregation to be open to receive God's word.
PRAYING FOR THE COMMUNITY
This week, we want to remember the families who have suffered the loss of loved ones and ask God to grant them strength and comfort. We also thank God for the Vacation Bible School which ends on Saturday, 7 Dec. Let's pray that the seed that has been planted in the hearts of the children will take root and bear fruit. Let's also pray that during this Advent season, we will not forget those who have yet to hear the gospel and invite them to our Christmas service. Here is this week's ministry guide for our prayer consideration and participation.
