O God Of Our Salvation

This month, the worship ministry team has been teaching and singing a new song “O God Of Our Salvation”, written by Matt Boswell and Michael Bleeker. Lam Lup Meng shares with us more about this modern hymn.

"O God of Our Salvation" is one of very few hymns that focuses on the Trinity, specifically on the role each Person in the Trinity plays in our salvation.

O God of our salvation
Who reigns upon the throne
The sov'reign Father great is He
From Whom all blessings flow

Chorus
O God of our salvation
From Whom redemption comes
O Father Son and Spirit
The blessed Three in One

Behold the Son our Savior
Who for our sin was slain
The Christ Who purchased with His blood
The wretched souls of men

O God the Holy Spirit
Revealing deity
The fount of life and love divine
Throughout eternity

(Bridge)
Yeah ascribe O church the greatness
And the glory due His name
One God one King one Essence
Our triune God proclaimed

(Amen) God of our salvation
(Amen) Who reigns upon the throne
(Amen) The sov'reign Father great is He
(Amen) From Whom all blessings flow

Verse 1 tells us that God the Father is sovereign over all things. He reigns from His throne above and blesses us abundantly. It is a good reminder that God is in control of everything and that He provides us with all the blessings.

Verse 2 reminds us of the work of Christ the Son, who purchased our salvation with His blood. Indeed, what helpless and wretched souls are we, but for the love of Christ who saved us from our sins and restored us to God.

Verse 3 talks about the Holy Spirit’s role in revealing God to us. It is the work of the Spirit that shows us our need for God and His salvation and points us to Christ. The Spirit is indeed the fountain of life and divine love.

The end of the song tells us to give all glory and praise to our triune God. Let us all proclaim Him, who is the God of our salvation.

"Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness."  1 Chronicles 16:29
