Let's Prepare for Worship this Sunday (1 Jan 2017)

WORSHIP PREPARATION

Blessed New Year!

As we usher in the new year, let's examine our hearts in light of Psalm 81:8-16, and see if we have replaced God with idols or false worship, and if we have, let's start the year anew, confessing our sins and asking God to renew us with a wholehearted obedience to turn away from idols and false worship as we listen to His Word and live out the gospel in our lives for His glory.

Here are the pre-service reflection questions, call to worship passage, and songs for this Sunday to help direct our thoughts to God:

Psalm 81:8-16 (NLT) :
“Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings.
O Israel, if you would only listen to me!
9 You must never have a foreign god;
you must not bow down before a false god.
10 For it was I, the Lord your God,
who rescued you from the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things.
11 “But no, my people wouldn’t listen.
Israel did not want me around.
12 So I let them follow their own stubborn desires,
living according to their own ideas.
13 Oh, that my people would listen to me!
Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
14 How quickly I would then subdue their enemies!
How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him;
they would be doomed forever.
16 But I would feed you with the finest wheat.
I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”

Q1. Are there any "strange gods" or "foreign gods" that we are idolizing in our lives where God should be worshipped?

Q2. How has God fed us and satisfied us with His goodness in Christ Jesus this week?

GOD'S WORD IN WORSHIP

Pastor Ian's sermon this Sunday is : "When Trouble Comes" ( Psalm 46 :1-11)

The big idea of his sermon is : "Trouble comes because we live in a fallen world that is broken (groaning) under the weight of Sin. Yet in this there is still Sovereign purpose: Trouble may indeed come to us in 2017, and when it does, we are reminded to equip ourselves for the task (opportunity) He has given."

May you have a blessed time of encountering God in your preparation.
