Interview with missionaries Leong Tzi Ping and Heidi

1. Hi Ping and Heidi! Could you describe the mission work you were previously involved in and the one you are about to undertake to someone hearing it for the first time?
Years ago, Heidi and I crawled out of our office cubicles and have been involved in missions ever since. We both started out on scary short term mission trips to Africa and Afghanistan while we were still single and eventually went on to scarier full time missions after we got married.

Having a common appreciation of different cultures and languages, the Lord led us to one of the many ministry needs in Indonesia - the Saluan tribe on the beautiful island of Sulawesi. The Saluan village is located in the humid jungle on the edge of a mountain cliff.

Our objective was to study the local culture, learn the tribal language and translate the Bible into the Saluan language.

2. As far as you can foresee, describe some of the challenges and difficulties that you anticipate related to the mission.
As missionaries in a remote village, we face the same challenges and difficulties anyone will experience in a modern city. In the same way, we constantly face challenges to our flesh, the difficulties of worldliness as well as Satan's attempts to trip our walk with God.

Language learning can be a challenge to many especially if it is an unwritten language and if it is your first foreign language. A humanitarian related ministry will also tend to be more physically demanding than a translation or teaching ministry.

With the Lord's strength, we can do all things according to His will for His glory.

3. Besides praying for the challenges listed in above, how can we as a church keep you in prayer?
Please pray for each of our personal walk with God - that our quite times with the Lord will be priority, not rushed but deep.

Please pray that Heidi and I will be able to balance our time with each other and with the children. Pray that Heidi will have the strength and patience to homeschool our children as well as take care of the household.

Pray that I will be an understanding and supportive husband and father. Pray that our children will grow in their desire and knowledge of God.

Pray that we will be able to find the right house and the right car. Pray that we will work well with our team mates and local co-workers.

4. Besides praying for you and your family during your mission work, how can we as a church body support you in your calling?
We will send regular updates on our family and ministry but we also appreciate skype calls and welcome short visits as soon as we are settled.

5. Any final thoughts you would like to share with the church?
“I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.” (3 John 4)
