Interview with Belinda Wee

Belinda Wee, a familiar face of our worship team, shares with us how God sought her when she was a young believer and how serving in various ministries reveals to her the essence of community life in the church. Do smile at her the next time you see her in church!

thiem-heng-belinda1. Could you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am Belinda, wife of Thiem Heng who has just completed his service as an elder for six years.

2. How did you come to Christ?

I was 13 when I accepted Jesus as my Saviour. I knew there was a higher being – God, and I made up my mind that I was going to seek Him! Little did I know... He already had a plan. He knew my thoughts! One day, during History lesson, the teacher asked if anyone would be interested to study the Bible! I put up my hand and the rest was history. I accepted Jesus on my very first lesson!

I had follow-up lessons and attended church, but I stopped having regular studies when I hit my twenties. I was not willing to commit to a group regularly for Bible study (this went on for years). Again, the Lord sought me out and very soon I found myself enrolling in a group and I stayed on for six years! God is always merciful to me and He showers me with love and care. The years with the Bible study group prepared me for a crisis in my life which I never expected. The Lord was equipping and moulding me. He sustained me through the crisis. Though it was not resolved, my rest is in Him! Amen.

3. Could you share with us what areas are you are serving now or has served in the church and what have you learnt from them?

I have been serving in the worship ministry (30 years), floral ministry (28 years) and GBC women ministry (6 years).

Music is my greatest love. I would say I am a perfectionist when it comes to that but I have learnt to let go and let God take charge. My six years in the women's ministry have been encouraging. Everytime there is an event, I am encouraged by the support and kind gestures of many ladies. At times, I will struggle to come up with the next project and get anxious but God is a provider as long as our hearts are willing. Serving with people is about building friendships with them and through the experiences, loving them. Not easy as we are all wired differently but that is the very essence of community life in the church.

4. Can you share with us one of your greatest joys and one of your greatest challenges as you support Elder Thiem Heng as a spiritual leader of the church?

My greatest joy in being an elder's wife is the opportunity to know some great women of faith! Learning from their sharing and also finding acceptance and love displayed by these lovely women.

The challenge would be seeing my husband struggle through various church issues which can be very exhausting at times.

5. Tell us something about yourself that many members do not know.

I am comical and animated!

6. How can we pray for you and encourage you?

My prayer request is to continue to walk faithfully and rightly with God, and being obedient to His prompting.

A simple way to encourage me is to – smile! :) It is the simplest form of encouragement and yet effective for me! It brings joy and warmth especially when greeted with a smile in church, we are joyful saints, aren't we?
