Expository Teaching Seminar

The first ever Expository Teaching Seminar was held on 20 September. Organised by the Care Group (CG) Ministry together with the Christian Education on Sunday (CES) team, the aim was to equip Care Group Leaders (CGLs), Sunday Discipleship Seminar (SDS) teachers and anyone interested in teaching and planning Bible studies.

expositoryteaching1.JPGIn this full day session, Leow Wen Pin led everyone through an introduction to expository teaching, before explaining a teacher's understanding of teaching and how to develop lessons. Expository teaching aims to stay true to what God says in the passage and aims to do what God does as a result of what is said. The expository teaching approach in many of our CG Bible studies aims to explain the Bible passage as the author originally intended, with the goal of applying it to change lives.

We thank God for each person that attended. Many of the participants left the session encouraged, and keen to apply the skills in their personal Bible reading as well as in their CGs. We leave you with some of their reflections and sharing, and encourage CGLs and members alike to join us for the subsequent sessions! Let us also continue to uphold in prayer our CGLs and those who regularly teach us God's word.

"The inaugural expository teaching seminar taught me a brand new way of looking at Bible study! Wen Pin's thoughtful framework and energy helps to demystify what leading a bible study entails --I found it is less daunting than what I had imagined it to be. I would highly recommend this seminar to anyone who is led to be more involved in care group leadership."

"The session provided me with a better understanding about expository teaching, and I realised that a commitment to lead the Bible Study -- the amount of time that goes into preparing and planning a Bible study -- make it an awesome responsibility. The session provided helpful skills and structures in lesson preparation, but it definitely requires a lot of practice! I would highly recommend this also to CG members, and not just the leaders! We could all sign up as a CG bonding activity!"

"As a new CGL (and fairly young Christian), this seminar taught me both the theory of expository teaching and the practical techniques of transforming lives through expository teaching. The small tips for Bible study along the way were very helpful too! I really appreciate the huge amount of effort that went into preparing and running the seminar."
