Christ is Risen…Now What?

1700 years ago, John Chrysostom was studying law and was on his way to a brilliant career. But on his way to the courts of Syria, he experienced his own 'Emmaus Road'. Suddenly, Jesus seemed to draw near to him and go with him. All of his education and logic was overcome by the truth of Christ.

His eyes were opened and then he knew: The Lord really has risen!

Years later, he remembered that event and wrote these words:

“Hell grasped a corpse, and met God. Hell seized earth, and encountered heaven.
Hell took what it saw, and was overcome by what it could not see.
O death, where is your sting? O hell, where is your victory?

Christ is risen, and you are cast down! Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen!
Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice! Christ is risen, and life is set free!
Christ is risen, and the tomb is emptied of its dead.

For Christ, having risen from the dead, has become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Christ be glory and power forever and ever. Amen!”

This past Sunday we celebrated Easter by observing five young adults as they fully identified with His death and resurrection. They professed their belief in Him, they went down into 'their own grave' and then modelled the power of His resurrection by rising up out of the water.

But now what? How do they (and we) continue to live life every day in the power of the resurrected Christ? Beginning this Sunday, we will begin a two-week mini-series on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. I encourage each of us to prepare our hearts by reading John 14:15-31, and then come on Sunday prepared to hear from the resurrected Saviour!

To Him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen!
