Introduction
Some think they give too much, some feel pressured to give, and many have so many questions about giving. Today's sermon will help us understand the practice of giving.
Our giving to God should be purposeful
- It is after all an act of worship and thanksgiving to God (Deut 16:10,17)
- It is also an act of compassion to meet needs of individuals (Phil 4:15-16), or an act of compassion to meet the needs of groups of individuals (2 Cor 8:3-5).
- Who should we help? Essentially anyone -- family (1 Tim 5:8), other believers (Gal 6:10), others.
Our giving to God should be private
- In Matthew 6:3-4, we read of the Pharisees that Jesus spoke about that made a great deal out of hteir giving to the poor. They gave to bolster their personal fame.
- How do we give? Are we really giving to God or giving to serve ourselves?
Our giving to God should be planned
- In a practical way, our giving should be part of our lives and planned for.
What does this mean for us today?
