Statement from English and Chinese Congregational Leaders on Church Rebuilding

The congregational leaderships of the EC and CC believe God is leading Grace Baptist Church into a journey of faith to rebuild our church premises.

The EC and CC leaderships have deliberated carefully and agreed on the following spiritual priorities for GBC to uphold and exemplify our unity as one church and one body:

1. A common purpose that we are called by God to glorify Him by obeying the Great Commission through proclaiming the gospel, teaching His Word, and living it out together.

2. A central vision to be a disciple making church that transforms lives with the gospel and love of Jesus Christ.

3. A growing confidence in the Lord's leading through praying, sharing, understanding, and loving concern for God's plans and purposes.

4. A conviction that God is leading GBC into a journey to spiritually revive us and rebuild the church premises for His glory.

With these spiritual priorities, the following factors have also brought the congregational leaderships to decide on the rebuilding:

a. Immediate and long term needs of ministry works requiring forward planning and expansion of the church premises.

b. The Government’s latest regulations which permit higher plot ratio to build a larger floor area.

c. The Government's future plans to build more housing near GBC.

d. The building of an MRT station just around the corner from GBC.

e. Rising building construction cost.

f. Our ageing facilities requiring expensive and extensive repairs.

The process by which the leaders arrived at the collective decision included a series of prayerful consultations among leaders and with members of our congregations.

With the confidence and conviction of God's leading to rebuild, an EGM will be called in 1st Qtr. 2014 for the members to vote on this matter.

We ask everyone to pray humbly and earnestly as we continue on this journey of faith for God's glory, plans, and purposes together.
