Prepare for Worship (6 Jan 2019)

A Blessed New Year to everyone! As we begin the year with our new theme "Grace Together", let us personally reflect on this question -- How has the Lord used community to shape me for His glory?

WORSHIP PREPARATION

Call to Worship: Psalm 95: 1-5

Come, let us sing to the LORD!

Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come to him with thanksgiving.

Let us sing psalms of praise to him.

For the LORD is a great God,

a great King above all gods.

He holds in his hands the depths of the earth

and the mightiest mountains.

The sea belongs to him, for he made it.

His hands formed the dry land, too."

SONGS OF WORSHIP

Here are the songs for this week.

GOD'S WORD IN WORSHIP

Taking the pulpit for the 1st sermon of 2019 is Pastor Ian who will be setting the tone and context for our new theme of the year "Grace Together". He will be preaching on "Grace Together: A Covenant Community" from Hebrews 10:9-25. The big idea of his sermon is that God is the one who prepares us for community and so when we live in a "covenant community", we lives as redeemed sinners bound to Christ and to each other by a bond of sacrificial love. Let's be praying for Pastor Ian as he prepares to bring God's word to us and pray for us that we will respond by daily seeking to commit to and practice behaviours that nurture our covenant community.

PRAYING FOR THE COMMUNITY

We are indeed grateful for the Watchnight Service where we heard powerful stories testifying to God's presence and ministry in their lives during times of grief, loss and heartache, and how each journey was strengthened by the support of the church community. Let's pray for the new year that this community life will continue to flourish and exude the fragrance of Christ as we do life together.  Let's also pray for the QCM this Sunday that we will bring to bear Christlike behaviours that shape our attitude and response. 2019 will be another exciting year of seeing God's grace and faithfulness at work in and through GBC.  For more prayer needs on our community life, here is this week's ministry guide
