May the Peoples Praise You

This year’s theme song for Great Commission Month (GCM), 'May the Peoples Praise You', is a timely encouragement for Grace Baptist Church. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this song reminds us of the truth of God’s salvation plan. Toshi Mori explains how this song, inspired by Psalm 67, is a prayer of the church.

May the Peoples Praise You

You have called us out of darkest night
Into Your glorious light
That we may sing the wonders of
The risen Christ

May our every breath retell the grace
That broke into our strife
With boundless love and deepest joy
With endless life

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

All the earth is Yours and all within
Each harvest is Your own
And from Your hand we give to You
To make Christ known

May the seeds of mercy grow in us
For those who have not heard
May songs of praise build lives of grace
To spread Your Word

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

This our holy privilege to declare
Your praises and Your name
To every nation, tribe and tongue,
Your church proclaims

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

Holy, holy is the Lord Almighty
Worthy, worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Holy, holy is the Lord Almighty
All creation praise Your glorious Name

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

The song begins with the verse reminding us that all have sinned and were called out of darkness, that none deserve, nor can earn, nor can justify our salvation (Rom 3:23).

Verse 2 tells us that the purpose of our redemption is to make Christ known. When we surrender our lives for His purpose, He moulds us into His instrument (John 13:35, Rom 12:1-2, Phil 1:6, Rom 5:1-5).

Lastly, in Verse 3, we see that The Great Commission is God inviting us to co-labour: not that He needs us, but that we might partake in the sweetness of sharing the Word (1 Cor 3:9).

God’s desire, and our prayer, is that He will use us to invite all the peoples to find Jesus. To know Him THROUGH our living testimony, that we may together, praise the name of Jesus!

The final scene has been beautifully portrayed for us in Rev 7:9-10, where there will be “a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

Indeed, may the peoples praise You, O Lord. May all that we have, give praise to the Name of Jesus! May we yearn for our brothers and sisters to find peace and joy in this tumultuous world that only comes from knowing You.
