GBC's Visit to Roslin Orphanage - 16-20 Apr 15

GBC first visited Roslin Orphanage in April 2013 and has since been making semi-annual trips to the orphanage (in Jun and Dec).  Roslin Orphanage is located in West Timor and was founded in 2000 (officially opened in 2002) by Budi and Peggy Soehardi with the objective of breaking the cycle of poverty in the region through proper education. The orphanage currently houses around 178 children with the majority of them under 10 years old.

Roslin Orphanage also runs Roslin School - a Montessori kindergarten for the community. It is free of charge for the village children and apart from education, it also provides fresh milk and three meals for the children. In addition, the orphanage has been cultivating rice in a field about 40km away from the orphanage. The size of the field is about 20,000 squared metres and God has blessed the orphanage with plentiful harvest such that the orphanage has been self-sufficent on rice since April 2008. A banana farm 3km away from the rice field and about 25,000 squared metres-big is also on the way, with further plans to start an eco-village farming organic plants.

Read what Captain Budi has to say about GBC's latest visit (16-20 Apr 2015) to Roslin Orphanage:

Multiple trips have been made by Singapore's Grace Baptist Church to Roslin. Indeed we are so blessed by each of the trip that they made as the children would get to participate in many educational activities and acquire knowledge. The children, both young and old, highly anticipated these visits and enjoyed the lessons which were given at our own place, so they didn't have to travel to another place to receive the lessons. Praise the Lord for His provisions and the valuable lessons He is blessing our children with.

This spot is our favourite spot to sit down and to receive friends as it gives us good shade and fresh air from all the trees that we planted over the years.

These educational activities were also conducted for the Roslin School's students, thus Grace Baptist Church was not only blessing our children but also blessing the village children who are studying at Roslin School. Roslin School is not just attended by the children from nearby village but also attended by children who are living some 15 to 20 plus km away from our location. We are so happy to that these children (from futher villages) are coming because of the better quality of Roslin School as compared to other schools. Few months ago our school participated in a competition at the provincial level and we won second prize even though we did not prepare prior to the competition. Praise The Lord. This achievement was possible because of the confidence of our students which have been built up over many regular visits by our friends from many different countries and of different nationalities.

Thank you to Singapore's Grace Baptist Church for visiting us. Your visits are always meaningful and have a great impact on the children of both Roslin Orpahange and Roslin School. On this trip the group from GBC consists of senior and younger members of the church, so all our children are being blessed with activities tailored according to their age group.

Roslin Orphanage Prayer

This is the regular evening prayers before their meals at the hall. Bascially we are thanking God for all the blessings, for God's provisions , for safety, for keeping us healthy and praying for those who are sick or need prayers . It is conducted by the children themselves. Praise The Lord for the chance to keep them in God's presence daily and keeping them within the desired path of life "so far". Long road ahead of them and we will do our best to nurture them.
