Elder Recommendation - Mok Chuan-Xin

At the upcoming English Congregation Meeting on 17 Feb, we will be asking the church to affirm Mok Chuan-Xin and Caleb Yap as elders, as well as to to renew Beh Soo Hee's term for another three years. During our service on 20 Jan, Pastor Eugene interviewed Chuan-Xin for the church to find out more about him and below is Chuan-Xin's testimony on why he felt compelled to serve in this capacity.

I am Chuan-Xin and I have been married to Peixian for 9 years and we have two daughters, Yiqian and Yirou. My parents, Bruce and Doris Mok, my brother, Chuan-Hao and his wife Melisse and their children all worship at Grace.

Having been at this church since birth, God has blessed me to know no other life beyond that of a Christian, and I have many of you to thank for raising me. Perhaps the best way to share who I am and why I have decided to serve as an elder is to share how God has used my family and the people in this church to mould me and continue to teach me.

My father taught me about service to others, not as a military man but through service in church. You could always find Bruce Mok doing something in church. Setting up or putting away chairs in the church, directing traffic in the carpark etc. He insisted that the family sit in the middle pew at the front, so that latecomers could get a seat easily. And he went to many, many, wakes. And I have tried to follow my father’s example of loving others through action.

My brother taught me about community by dragging me to join the youth fellowship and to subsequently be more active with the youth where I then met Pastor Oliver. Peixian’s first time at Grace was also at a youth camp. People like Kang Wei and Nee Kia and others also dragged me into the Children’s ministry many years ago. Without them calling me out of my introversion and bringing me alongside them to serve, I could just have easily been a Sunday-only Christian.

My mother taught me prayer. Sometime before my PSLE my mother called me to pray with her. But she didn’t pray for good grades or an easy exam, but for my submission to His will. That was the first time I realised how comforting it is to be praying with others and to be prayed for.

Last year we studied 1 John 4:12, “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

I am here today, not just because I became convicted of my sin and felt compelled to serve. I am here because I have been loved and shown how to love others. And I can only hope that I can continue to love you all and anyone who walks into this church the same way Christ loves us.
